Counseling Groups
Mrs. Corbett and I will be leading small group guidance lessons for students from each grade level. Small group guidance in a confidential setting is an excellent way for each participant to share their strengths and learn more about themselves. It gives students the opportunity to be a positive role model in addition to learning and growing from each other. Students are able to work on strategies for success in the academic and social world of school.
Teachers, administrators, students and/or parents may refer students for group. If your child is invited to participate in a group, a permission form will be sent home. The form will let you know when the dates and times the group will be meeting. This form must be signed and returned for any student to participate.
Groups are made up of students with different areas of strengths. This helps to provide a positive learning experience for all. Forth and Fifth grade groups are typically once a week during lunch. For other grades group meetings take place once a week during the respective grade level Focused Instruction Time (FIT). If your student receives other interventions (RTI pull outs or GT pull outs) during this time, and chooses to participate in the group, they will miss the pull out for a limited amount of time. Groups normally meet for 4-5 times and members of the group remain the same.
If you are interested in you child being a part of a group or if you have any questions about the topics addressed in group, please feel free to call me.
